Creating a peaceful environment will help reduce stress and increase your enjoyment of the Holidays. Here are a five simple tips to prepare your home to welcome your guests:
(1) De-clutter
The Holidays are usually a time of great clutter! In addition to your regular home decorating, you bring out the seasonal decorating items. To minimize the clutter, store some or most of your standard items away until the Holidays are over. In fact, you can use the boxes and bags that your Holiday items are stored in.
Gift purchases can also clutter up your home. It's easiest to wrap gifts as you go. Find an extra room, closet or the basement to store these items until the Holidays.
(2) Clean
Just as important as Spring Cleaning, cleaning before the Holidays will set the stage for fresh energy and vitality. Cleaning actually "clears out" the stagnant energy that tends to congregate in the corners of rooms and can create a draining energy. So sprucing up with extra cleaning will make your home feel refreshed. Scents and aromas such as pine or cinnamon can also add to the festive feeling.
(3) Decorate the Mouth of Chi
The "Mouth of Chi" refers to the formal front entry to your home. Be sure that it is clutter-free and that your guests will have a delight of the senses. Festive lights, colors and fresh aromas such as pine and cinnamon will be sure to welcome.
Including objects with either the Metal or Water elements will enhance your chance of receiving opportunities during this Holiday season, which could relate to your career (greater earning potential) or any area of your life. Metal can be represented by Metal objects or round shapes, such as globes or holiday balls. The Water element can be represented by wavy shapes, such as garland draped over the doorway or in the entry area, or a small water fountain that will add soft light and sound.
(4) Promote Family Harmony
Promote family harmony by placing a Christmas tree or plants along the "Family" area of the Feng Shui Bagua. While standing at the main entry to the living room this location will be along the left side of the room, either the center left or far left corner. Trees and plants represent the Wood element and promote family harmony and abundance.
If you don't own a fireplace, candles can add a warm, cozy touch and can be placed along the far back wall – opposite the room's entry. Candles represent the Fire element and will add vitality and warmth to your home.
(5) Restore Some Balance in Your Daily Activities
And remember, during the season, to keep balanced with some quiet time. Reading a book, meditating, or walking in the woods are great ways to restore balance in this hectic season. Giving gratitude and keeping a harmonious intention for the Holidays will also give your home a peaceful environment in which you can experience the joys of this special season!
